Professional teeth cleaning  is also known as scaling and takes place when you see a dental hygienist. It is done to keep natural teeth healthy by completely removing tartar and plaque. Teeth cleaning is done with both ultrasonic and manual tools. The ultrasound equipment we use consists of very thin tips that allow you to reach the tartar under the gums. During cleaning, the instrument vibrates and sprays water mist simultaneously which washes away debris and keeps the temperature low.

Manual instruments (curettes) are much more anatomical and easier to handle, they do not vibrate but can also reach the calculus under the gums.

Usually after dental cleaning, we also eliminate dental stains and done a final polishing. To do this, we used a polishing paste and a special toothbrush that acts on the surface of the tooth enamel.

As an alternative to the paste and the toothbrush, we may also use a jet of water and bicarbonate of soda using equipment known as "Airflow".

How often do you need your teeth cleaned?

In general, it will be your dental hygienist or dentist who recommends how often you should have your teeth cleaned depending on the patient and how often plaque and tartar build up on their teeth. However, when there are no specific critical issues such as periodontitis, it is good practice to do have them cleaned every 6 months.

PROFESSIONAL Teeth WHITENING

Teeth whitening is a procedure that improves the colour of natural teeth, making them whiter. However, it does not work on prosthetic crowns, fillings or any other restorative materials in the mouth. This is why the dentist or hygienist needs to carry out a preventative assessment beforehand, in order to recommend the most appropriate technique for each case.

The products used mainly contain hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide, used in various concentrations depending on which method is used and according to the patient's needs.

Whitening works because oxygen is released by the hydrogen peroxide or carbamide when it comes into contact with the teeth. These oxygen molecules break up the pigment molecules responsible for the discoloration, making them less visible and more consistent with the natural colour.

It is possible to choose between different types of treatment according to each patient's need. However, you should always keep in mind that it is fundamental to first carry out a thorough teeth cleaning session.

Teeth WHITENING at Home

When whitening your teeth at home, it means you will use customised mouth trays which have been made specifically in the laboratory. The whitening products provided by the dental surgery are put into these and they must be worn for a period of time indicated by the dentist based on the result to be obtained. This treatment requires close supervision by the dentist / hygienist throughout the duration.

On average, home teeth whitening treatment helps to improve the shade of white along various degrees within the colour scale. These differences can differ considerably from one patient to another.

Teeth WHITENING WITH LAMP

This treatment can be carried out in clinic by the hygienist or the dentist, applying the whitening gel on the external surface area of the teeth, putting a special cover on the gum edges and polymerising the product with a professional lamp. The combined action of hydrogen peroxide and carbamide and the light of the lamp releases substances, called free radicals, which are able to penetrate inside the enamel and reach the pigmented molecules - the ones that cause colour changes.

The use of the lamp helps speed up the teeth whitening process by considerably reducing the exposure times. This teeth whitening effect is guaranteed to last for more than 6 month, however, can vary according to each case.

illuminating treatment

Illuminating treatment: it is a less strong teeth whitening treatment, where a lower concentration of the same active ingredient is used, which aims at bringing light back to your smile.

It can also be suitable for younger patients and those who do not have major teeth discoloration.
