To help solve the "fear of the dentist" issue, at Dr. Serena Baldi's Dental Practice we use a very effective method, which is a conscious sedation using nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas. This special method has proven to be of particular help both with both children and adults.

Procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) is a technique that has already been used for years both in Canada and in the United States, and helps minimise trauma in very young patients and eliminates emotional states such as anxiety, fear and stress. It also reduces the pharyngeal reflex and causing loss of perception during the entire period of sedation. This technique has no side effects at all and consists in applying a soft and perfumed mask onto the nose. The patient then inhales a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide which is regulated by the doctor and the assistant in proportionate percentages according to the needs of the individual patient. The state of sedation that is reached requires the patient to remain perfectly alert and cooperative but extremely relaxed and calm.
